Here is a way for you to enjoy some tropical living without having to sell the house, kids, dog, and buy a boat: Rent our Condo in Punta Mita! (....and it's our real home, not a timeshare).
Punta Mita is about a 40 minute drive north, along Banderas Bay, from the Puerto Vallarta Airport. Punta Mita used to be a small fishing community, but currently it is changing to a more upscale vacation spot. You can surf, swim, fish, dive, play golf, watch whales and blue footed boobies (birds, that is), enjoy great restaurants on the beach, and and and….
But what about our condo? A few years ago, while reading 'Lectronic Latitude (the great Bay Area Institution), we stumbled upon a great opportunity to buy a condo that was being built in beautiful tropical Punta Mita. So we went to check out the place. Not ever having been further south than Ensenada, I found that Punta Mita and Banderas Bay were not only beautiful, but also presented themselves with beautiful tropical weather. Both were irresistible selling points to this ex-Northern German. At the time, the construction of the building had just begun, but it was easy to see that this was going to be the place we wanted to be. The building is fairly small by condo standards, only 18 units altogether, thus it has a more homey feel to it than those huge, monster developments which are springing up everywhere else.
The building is right on the beach, quite literally. Only the 25 meter infinity pool separates the building from the beach. Our unit is on the second floor, and our huge balcony overlooks this majesty, but retains our privacy! The living room opens up to the balcony, and you feel like you are right on the water. The sound of the surf is music itself. This place also has the nicest kitchen I ever called my own, not that you need to spend a lot of time cooking in there, considering all the great restaurants that are just a five-minute-stroll-along-the-beach away. But, it gives you the option to prepare that super fresh fish you bought from the local fishermen who just caught it that morning, or to try out that Mexican dish you like so much. The condo has one bedroom, i.e. sleeps two. However, there is also a queen size air mattress, which can be used for an additional person or couple. Of course, we keep the apartment and kitchen completely furnished, complete with flat screen TV and iPod stereo.
